Beauty

Beauty, a simple word used by millions of people a day. What defines beauty? Is it skin color, weight, freckles on ones face? Or is it something deeper than that, something that may not involve physical aspects but rather being able to embrace ones uniqueness. Today in our society, the media is constantly telling young adults exactly how they should look in order to be beautiful, they set guidelines such as plump lips, arched eyebrows, flawless skin, and that, well that’s all bull shit, that is just a way for huge corporations to survive off people who are gullible or have low self-esteem. They set an image which unfortunately leads teenagers to become severely infatuated with looking perfect, but if we all looked like that, we would simply be all clones, and the world. Well it would be a fairly boring place.

You truly don’t have to be perfect in order to be beautiful. There are many aspects which play a role such as personality. It may not be seen with the naked eye but the way someone makes you feel, being loved, being cared for, that is what should be defined as beauty. Situations can make individuals be perceived as a whole new different person such as effecting people positively by lending someone a hand, being a good citizen, and participating in helping the community become a better place.

Real beauty is on the inside which is more important than one’s outward appearance. One looks good with external looks, but is known better in terms of internal features. It's personality which is based on one’s emotional, intellectual and spiritual qualities. Inner beauty is something on which a person needs to pay attention, because, as he gets on with his life, all deeds and actions are drawn from that inner beauty. Hence, the need is to acknowledge and improve inner beauty to lead life successfully.

Many people are actually frightened to stand up for what they believe in, but will following the crowd help you achieve anything in your life? Because it honestly shouldn’t matter what other people think, it’s what you think of yourself. Following what society believes is beautiful may have its pros such as fitting in and joining the super popular group at school, you may not be an outcast but you may end up being a mediocre and losing your sense of self and individuality.

Unfortunately, you will not be remembered by just “fitting in” with the crowd. A perfect example in this case would be celebrities they all try so hard to be different from each other. Lady gaga, Nicki Minaj they stand out, and that’s why I honestly do believe their so famous, they are different.

These are the kind of people we should look up to; these are the people that should be perceived as beautiful in our modern day. This teaches us a great lesson, it teaches us to overcome obstacles and to not be who everyone else wants you to be such as parents, friends, maybe even teachers, because at the end of the day it’s not what other people think of a certain individual, its what that person thinks of themselves!

Lastly, Id like to conclude my speech by reading the quotation which I have chosen… by Kahlil Gibran, “Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart”
